THE BOX

Last night we saw the this year's Collaboraction performance Sketchbook, a gathering of sixteen short plays performed over two nights every year in Chicago. Last night, two of the plays, performed back to back, decried the always already inside-the-box thinking inherent in the phrase "think outside the box."

The second play probably should have come first, as its explanation and analysis was more elaborate. Coming second, after the idea had already been introduced, it came off as just more of the same boxed-in thinking.
